My thoughts and comments on my second trip through Chemotherapy for ovarian cancer.
August 29, 2007

Another day and no real changes.  Still headachey and tired and in general feeling yucky.  The worst though is dealing with being either nauseous or starving.  It's always one of the two.  I haven't vomited so far with all my chemo treatments, but I do get a queasy stomach and all the rest without actually vomiting.  You would think that food is the last thing on my mind, but totally not so.  I don't understand how it works exactly, but my chemo drug must make me nauseous and the steroid pre-med drug makes me hungry.  So it is possible for me to go from nausea to eating like a truck driver at a buffet in just minutes.  It's crazy, but eating seems to calm my queasy stomach, and with the steroids, I'm again full of food cravings.

Last time I gained 35-40 pounds, and this time I had hoped that wouldn't happen.  The first 2 rounds, I managed not to gain any weight , but I can tell now, here I go again.  Maybe it won't be so much this time.  Ah, who am I kidding?  My philosophy is whatever it takes to get me through chemo so if it means a cheeseburger or two then that's what I'm going to have!   I'll have time enough after the treatments to lose the weight.   My sweet loving husband is all on board with this too and indulges me in my cravings.   Anyone that knows him, knows how thin he is, but even he has packed on a few extra pounds too on my "chemo" diet.   Actually we've invented a new favorite sandwich.  It's easily over 1000 calories and would literally cost over $10 as a combo deal so it's probably not going to happen, but still it's so good!  It's called the Fish Mac.  My husband is the one who came up with the idea and name.  You take a Big Mac and two fish filet sandwiches and switch out the hamburger patties for the fish and spread the tartar sauce with the special sauce to make the Fish Mac My husband eats the "new" burgers and I get the ultimate fish sandwich.   I know it will be a big hit for others doing chemo and on steroids!  Are you listening, McDonalds research and developement?
