Miracles and Wonders
Bruce Almighty
I didn't realize it at the time, but that line is actually stolen from a movie, Bruce
Almighty
, in which Jim Carrey plays a self centered news reporter who blames God for
everything that goes wrong in his life.  When God, played by Morgan Freeman, grows
tired of Bruce's complaining, he arranges a meeting and ultimately grants Bruce all of
his powers (I think that immediately followed the question "So you think you could do a
better job?"). Bruce has fun at first, but wilts under the responsibility of trying to
answer everyone's prayers. By the end of the movie he is kneeling in the street,
screaming "I don't want to be God anymore. I want you to decide what is right for my
life. I surrender to Your will."  And then he's hit by a truck.   That sets up the final
meeting with God in which Bruce shows how much he has learned and God gives him
a bracelet that he had thrown into a lake at the beginning of the movie. Then God sends
him back to earth just as the paramedics are shocking him back to life. When Bruce
wakes up in the hospital, he finds the bracelet still in his hand. He looks up, and says
"Now you're just showin' off".

That was the same feeling that I had. First, that I was talking to someone who I knew
personally. And second, that He had done something so obviously miraculous that I had
to acknowledge it.
