Miracles and Wonders
What's in a Name?
By this point you may be wondering why we chose the name Miracles and Wonders for
this website. Aside from the obvious reason that we created this site to tell others about
the miracles and wonders that God has done in our lives, the name is also a reference to
one of my favorite movies,
Leap of Faith starring Steve Martin, Debra Winger and
Liam Neeson. (Spoiler alert: the rest of this article will reveal details about the plot of the
movie.)

In this movie Steve Martin plays the Reverend Jonas Nightengale, who runs a traveling
revival show called Miracles and Wonders. When one of the tour's trucks breaks down,
the show is forced to perform in a small rural town that has fallen on hard times.
Through the course of the movie Jonas is revealed to be a con artist who uses staged
faith healings, cheap carnival tricks, and other cons to convince his audiences that he is
a man of God and therefore convince them to make donations to his ministry. In the
end a young boy from town who was paralyzed in an auto accident is healed by an act
of true faith and Jonas' life is changed as a result.

Even though this is not a particularly spiritual movie, the simple message about the
power of faith to change lives and achieve miracles was an inspiration.
